Joy is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) who works for Solace Counseling and Consulting, a private counseling practice in Raleigh, North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and her Master of Education with a focus in Clinical Counseling from North Carolina State University. During her graduate experience, Joy interned at a privately owned counseling practice, focusing on concerns such as adjustment disorders, identity exploration, relationships, anxiety, and trauma. In addition to her work in private practice counseling, she also interned at Duke University. In this role, Joy worked with first-year students who struggled to find belonging and connection in their new environments. Some of her tasks here included facilitating group conversations and helping first-year college students define their values.
Joy is very passionate about student wellness and living a healthy lifestyle. She realizes that “healthy” looks different for each person, and she enjoys meeting students wherever they are in their journey. Joy is equally as passionate about education, and she understands how mental health concerns and/or unhealthy habits and lifestyles can create barriers to reaching and attaining academic goals. In this role as a Wellness Specialist, I can help your student with any of the following areas: stress, tension in relationships, depression, anxiety, perfectionism, challenges in transitioning to new environments, or just ensuring that your student is functioning at their peak performance in school, athletic activities, or other commitments. These sessions are optional but available if you and your family are interested! A few Wellness counseling sessions are included at no charge in the Silver, Gold-12, Gold-21, and Platinum plans.
